"Some of the arguments and debates we've had
over the years have been pointless personal
hassles, but many have led us to a fuller
understanding of what we were as an entity, or what
we thought we ought to be. It is important to note
that policy and custom has been shaped at times by
arguments and hassles that were often quite
personal in nature. Like everything else in a scene
there is a lot of blending of different elements.
Disagreement about a point or a matter of principle
can get complicated when mixed in with dislike for
the other person's style or personality...
While I believe that it is important to have
wide acceptance of various personal codes of
conduct, I do like to cultivate a social atmosphere
where it's basically not OK to be a jerk...
I feel booting should be limited almost
solely to deep and repeated harassment by one
person to another... Because the point isn't to get
rid of people. The point is to try to make it so
everyone wants to stay and talk."
